German Luisa Ferrero Heinz has been an STS Local Coordinator (LC) since 2016. Here’s what she told us about her job.
1. Why did you decide to become a Local Coordinator (LC)?
One of my students suggested I should take this role at STS. I like speaking foreign languages and getting to know about other cultures.
2. How many students have you been LC for?
I have taken care of 18 students coming from all over the world.
3. What is it like to be an LC?
It’s interesting and I’m happy to help young people while they are staying abroad. It is also quite fun! I really love to see how they get better and better at speaking German during their exchange year but above all I love to see the exchange between different cultures.
4. Do you have any tips for future LCs?
I suggest to all the new LCs to be patient for the first two or three months since it is a totally new experience for both the student and the host family.
5. Do you keep in contact with any of your former students?
Yes, I’m still in contact with some of the students.
6. Can you recommend being an LC?
Yes, I can recommend becoming an LC. It is very exciting! Good luck!
